What is Public Policy?
In accordance with the overall mission of the organization, the Public Policy Division of the Pikes Peak Association of REALTORS® monitors policies, ordinances and legislation that could adversely affect private property rights and the free enterprise system.
PPAR seeks to proactively engage in the public policy and political arena so as to not only ensure proper representation of the Association’s interests at various levels of the decision-making process, be it local, state, and federal, but to also contribute to the overall quality of life on the Pikes Peak region.
What is RPAC?
In order to protect the free enterprise system and the right to own and transfer real property, many REALTORS® understand the importance of contributing to the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC). With your help, RPAC can continue effectively aiding in supporting or opposing legislation that hinders our efforts to maintain an exceptional business.
The real estate industry is one of the most heavily regulated industries in the country and it seems that every day brings a new attempt by government to regulate, tax or hamper our efforts to earn a living. In order to continue the well being of the real estate industry, it is imperative that we work together through RPAC to make our voice heard where many interest groups compete.

The Public Policy Committee
The committee is composed of PPAR members who monitor and act on local, state and federal issues affecting the real estate industry. Members also serve on advisory boards and committees throughout the community, interact with elected officials, and recommend political policy to the Board of Directors. The PP Committee meets the second Monday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in the PPAR Conference Room
The Legislative Policy Committee (LPC)
The committee monitors all legislation considered by the Colorado General Assembly; promotes or opposes any and all legislation which would have a favorable or negative impact on the real estate industry; proposes legislation that will improve the real estate industry’s operation; communicates on a regular basis with members and Boards/Associations of REALTORS® on legislative issues; and issues Calls-to-Action on state legislative matters. Why does PPAR endorse candidates?
PPAR meets with every willing candidate before indorsing one candidate over another. The decision is not based on political party, but rather candidates that support REALTORS® and will protect our industry once elected. If you would prefer your RPAC contribution go to support or defeat issues only, please indicate that on your check or RPAC contribution form and the Public Policy Committee will use your donation for issues only.
What if I don’t care about politics?
It’s ok if you don’t care about politics, as long as you are aware that politics can and will impact your business. At a minimum, you should contribute to RPAC, so that the Public Policy Committee can continue to protect your rights and interests. You can donate online to RPAC here.
