Professional Standards Information
PPAR’s professional standards program exists to uphold the integrity of the real estate profession across the Pikes Peak Region — protecting consumers and ensuring that PPAR REALTORS® are held to the highest standards of ethical conduct in every transaction.
Code of Ethics
The REALTOR® Code of Ethics is the foundation of professional conduct for every PPAR member. Established by the National Association of REALTORS® and updated regularly to reflect evolving standards, the Code of Ethics sets out the duties REALTORS® owe to their clients, to the public, and to other real estate professionals. It represents a commitment to fairness, honesty, and integrity that goes beyond what any law requires — and it is what sets PPAR REALTORS® apart across El Paso and Teller Counties.
Arbitration & Mediation
In addition to ethics complaints, PPAR administers a formal arbitration and mediation process for resolving financial disputes between REALTORS® — typically involving commission disagreements or procuring cause disputes. Mediation is available as a voluntary first step and is often a faster, less adversarial path to resolution than formal arbitration. Both processes are administered by trained PPAR professionals and governed by NAR procedures.
File a Complaint
PPAR takes professional conduct seriously. If you believe a PPAR REALTOR® has acted unethically or violated the REALTOR® Code of Ethics in a transaction involving property in the Pikes Peak Region, you have the right to file a formal complaint. The process is transparent, fair, and designed to protect both consumers and the integrity of the real estate profession across El Paso and Teller Counties.
How to File
- All complaints must be submitted in writing within 180 days from the date a complainant knew (or would reasonably know) of potentially unethical behavior, or 180 days from the conclusion of the transaction or event, whichever is later. The Ethics Complaint Form #E-1 and all supporting documentation can be emailed to [email protected].
- Sanctions imposed may include reprimand, mandatory education, fines up to $15,000.00, probation, and in some cases, suspension or revocation of membership.
Fair review, clear steps, and trusted standards for consumers and members across the region.
Ethics Complaints
Ethics complaints are filed when a consumer or fellow REALTOR® believes a PPAR member has violated one or more Articles of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. Examples may include issues related to honesty, fair dealing, disclosure obligations, or conduct toward clients and other real estate professionals.
Consumer Protection
PPAR is committed to protecting the interests of buyers, sellers, and renters across the Pikes Peak Region. Understanding your rights as a real estate consumer — and knowing what to expect from your REALTOR® — empowers you to advocate for yourself and recognize when professional standards are not being met.
As a buyer or seller working with a PPAR REALTOR®, you have the right to honest and accurate representation, full disclosure of material facts about a property or transaction, confidentiality of your personal information and negotiating position, prompt communication and professional responsiveness, and a fiduciary commitment to your best interests throughout the transaction. If you feel your rights have not been respected, PPAR’s professional standards process is available to you.
A PPAR REALTOR® should be your trusted guide and professional advocate throughout every stage of a real estate transaction across the Pikes Peak Region. You should expect clear, proactive communication at every step — from your first meeting through closing. Your REALTOR® should provide honest pricing guidance grounded in current market data, explain every document before you sign it, disclose any potential conflicts of interest, and always prioritize your goals and interests above their own. If something does not feel right, you have options — and PPAR is here to help.
